So, I’ve been using this device for nine months, and is it actually true what they say? So, guys, today I’m going to review my IPL device, which is called the Silk Expert Pro 5. So, you’re probably fed up with all the waxing and threading, shaving, or whatever, and you’re probably looking for something more permanent.
So, I’ve decided I will do a bit more details with you in this review. I’m going to talk a little bit more about that device. What is IPL technology for hair removal and how does it work, how to use it, how long does it take, and the most important thing, does it actually work? Of course. I’m just going to tell you my experience, how it works for me because I have used it for almost nine months already. So, if you want to know the answers to these questions, please read on.
So, I’m just going to take my device out of the box. You get as well this little book, and it tells how to use it and so on. So, make sure you read it. It’s corded, but the cord is very long, so it’s convenient.
So, it has two buttons. This one is to choose your sensitivity level. When you press once, it’s going to be the lightest one, then if you press again, it’s going to be the second one, and when you press again, it’s going to be level three. It’s the strongest one, and this one to do flashes. So, in the beginning, you probably will want to use level one or two until you get used to it.
But I recommend using it on level three because the stronger light is, the quicker you will see your results. So, if you turn it on, you can hear the buzzing sound. Also, like on the side, you can see the sensor lights to detect your skin tone. This is very useful because your skin tone is slightly changing across your body, so it can automatically adapt the flash intensity. I’m just going to turn it off a bit, and I’ll show you that you can remove the head.
And one only has one head. But I saw that there are options that you can buy this device with two heads, one bigger one and one smaller for smaller areas, but I noticed it’s not that huge. I can work with this head even in the smallest area. So, this device contains 400,000 flashes. And for example, compared with Philips one, it has only 250,000 flashes. So, this one has way more than Philips.
Also, one essential thing before you buy it, it’s not going to work on all the hair and skin types. So, for example, if you have Gray ginger or very light hair or you have dark skin, it’s not going to work for you. So, what is IPL? So, it stands for Intense Post Light (IPL) technology.
It’s definitely not a laser treatment. IPL uses a broad spectrum of light with various wavelengths. So that means IPL energy is scattered and much weaker than laser. It will only reduce the total number of your body hair. It’s not going to be permanent hair removal.
For older hair, the IPL is like targeting the melanin in your hair follicle, helping to break the cycle of hair growth. Before using it, you have to shave, not wax, because you need that hair roots to be treated by IPL light. Moving to the next question, how to use an IPL device.
So here it starts working, and you press it to your skin, automatically detecting your skin tone as you see. But for example, if you lift it and one of the sensors can’t reach the surface, you would see red light. So, make sure you press both sensors and push the button. I’m going to put it on level three because I’ve already got used to it, and you press on the skin.
Yeah, it’s that easy. I’ll turn it off because it’s buzzing. So, on level one, you only feel warm feelings. And on level three, you might feel like a rubber band snapping. But it’s mainly for those areas that have the thicker here.
For those areas with thinner areas, like, for example, hands, I can’t feel any pain. But of course, everybody is different, and everybody’s tolerating pain differently. So, it can be different for you. Maybe just one piece of advice. When you press it to the skin, don’t press it too hard, especially on the legs, whereas more fat because when you press it too hard, the skin will form like a bump inside here, and it will be closer to the light.
And for me, it’s harrowing if I press it too hard by accident. So, make sure you don’t do that. So how long it takes to do the treatment depends on which sensitivity level you are on. The Braun page on this device says that you can treat your legs in less than five minutes on the lowest sensitivity level. But unless you are highly sensitive to the pain, you don’t want to use it on the lowest level because that means you won’t see results as fast as you could see on level three.
So how long does it takes to finish the legs on level three? Well, it takes about 15 to 20 minutes. It depends on how experienced and how well you can withstand pain. It is because the light gets very hot on level three, and the flashes shoot like every 2 seconds, and it can go faster. While on level one, the flashes come out in faster intervals, like 1 second.
And to do armpits, for example, it’s like, I don’t know, six, seven flashes on each armpit, and you are done. So, you can do it extremely quickly. So, after you do this treatment, you have to either avoid direct sunlight or use sunscreen. And also, you can’t use it if your skin has been recently artificially or naturally hurt because your skin could be susceptible, and it could be more prone to the side effects of the IPL. Of course, there are loads of other warnings in this booklet, so make sure you read it.
And finally, does it actually work? The short answer is yes. But on the package, they say that you only need to use it every week for the first four to twelve weeks and then use it to your needs, for example, every month or two. So, I’ve been using this device for nine months. And is it true what they say?
I’m okay doing this treatment every three weeks on my arms because a couple of little hair don’t bother me. But my legs and armpits are a different story. Probably it’s because, in these areas, I got thicker hair. So, I would still need to repeat the procedure for my armpits every week. But it’s just because I don’t want any hair in my armpits on my legs.
It’s interesting because I would need to do the treatment every single week for the inner sides of my legs. But for the outer sides, I would need to do it every two weeks. So, on the inner side, my hair is a bit more stubborn. But sometimes, when I’m lazy, I’ll shave the inner side, and I will repeat the treatment when my outer side of the leg would need to. I don’t know if that makes sense.
Yeah. Sometimes I do my legs every week. Sometimes I do my legs every two weeks. It depends on how lazy I am. About the hair regrowth rate, all the hair comes back. It’s like 40% of your body hair grows back.
And that’s why some people would decide to do the treatment every month or two. And that’s totally fine. But me personally, I just don’t like any hair. So I’ll just show you how my hair looks on my arms. I did the treatment ten days ago, so there’s not much there. The outer side looks perfect, but the inner side is a different story. I shaved it five days ago because I couldn’t stand it anymore, and you can already see that it’s coming back. I have very stubborn hair on the inside of the legs and armpits shaved it five days ago, but I did the treatment ten days ago. As you can see, not all the hair comes back.
In general, I’m pleased with this product. It’s pricy, but I find it easy to use and incredibly cost-effective when compared to salon laser therapy, waxing, and other services. I’m pleased with the results after using the Braun IPL Hair Silk Expert Pro 5, and I’m looking forward to summer in which I may wear shorts whenever I want, regardless of when I last shaved or epilated. I highly recommend the Braun IPL Hair Silk Expert Pro 5.
